Introduction
Bullying is an epidemic in American public schools – 34% of students report being the victim of a bully during their educational career. The costs of bullying are high, and range from decreased attendance in school to an increase in teen suicides. Many celebrities have joined forces to raise the public’s awareness about bullying, but their pleas of “Bullying has to stop!” have been about as successful as “Just Say No” ending our nation’s drug problem.
Lawmakers have tried to address the bullying problem by doing what they do best – make laws. The unintended side effect of all of the state bullying laws is that the parents of bullying victims have been empowered to sue their child’s school.
The legal threshold of a successful lawsuit has been lowered, and school administrators are now sitting on a ticking time bomb. It is not a question of IF a particular school is going to be sued by bullying victims, it’s WHEN.
This online course addresses each of the potential problems caused by bullies:
Bullies are shown that their behavior is not acceptable, and strategies are taught so that bullies can realize what they are doing and stop.
Victims are empowered with strategies to deal with bullies, and bystanders are armed with techniques to help victims when they witness bullying situations.
The documentation component of the course protects teachers and administrators, who are frequently accused of “not doing anything” about the bullying issues on their campus. Everyone wins!
This course is taught by Shannon Holden, a public school administrator for the past 14 years. Mr. Holden deals with bullies and their victims on a daily basis, and he’s used his years of experience to put together a blueprint to reduce bullying behaviors in schools.
This course is priced annually per school for the entire student body. This course has been designed for teachers AND students to take together, to address bullying that may be occurring at your school.
