Day 1

10:00a-11:00a
WHY AND HOW WE TELL STORIES
"Stories sell, and features tell." Business owners often "tell" about their features, but stories of life transformation are what “sell” products and services. We will discuss why and how we tell stories to entertain and communicate ideas.

11:00a-12:00p
CONTROLLING IDEA AND MISSION STATEMENT
Matthew will share his innovation process, used by many other directors and writers in Hollywood, on how to create new ideas to hook your audience. This process can be used when creating a mission statement, along with turning business ideas into action.

12:00p-01:00p
LUNCH

01:00p-04:00p
THREE-ACT STORY STRUCTURE AND STORY SPINE
By learning how to use the three-act story structure and story spine, attendees will experience, hands-on, how to create stories and characters.

Day 2

10:00a-11:00a
FAIL FAST!
As new research by Harvard Business School’s Shikhar Ghosh shows, 75% of all start-ups fail. Matthew will share his experience on how Pixar’s methodology of embracing experimentation while creating new ideas quickly like a “lean start-up,” has contributed to their success. Matthew will also share how to build and nurture a culture that inspires creativity.

11:00a-12:00p
IMAGES AND BRANDING
We will learn how to use the power of visual storytelling to successfully evoke empathy when communicating ideas to a particular audience.

12:00p-01:00p
LUNCH

01:00p-02:30p
YOUR STORY
Attendees will create their own personal story, and the story of their business, in a quick and effective way that will allow them to better communicate with their clients and staff.

02:30p-04:00p
PITCHING AND PRESENTING YOUR STORY AND IDEAS
Matthew will share his seven pitching tips, along with how to present your ideas in a way that will keep an audience interested and entertained.

Attending Matthew’s story workshop has made a drastic difference in growing my business and my understanding of why I am in my business. By learning why we tell stories and how to effectively tell a story, I am now able to look at my story and write it in a way that can communicate to my clients and staff.

Alex Benay - CEO Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation

Rarely, you’re told a story so clearly, yet with such a sense of discovery and surprise, you find yourself living it, on many levels, simultaneously. Imagine if that story was a story about how the best storytellers make stories. Matthew provides just that balanced magic in his presentation of storytelling. Matthew makes better stories possible.
